The idea of re-embedding initial teacher training back into a formative environment is neither new, nor particularly unexampled in our own day. What is new about the Teaching Schools Alliance is that it takes the idea of an ‘ecology of learning’ seriously, and specifically links the formation of future educational leaders to the ethos of particular schools.

BENEFITS

Training through the Teaching Schools Alliance Sydney is about more than just your study. It's about  your formation.

School-based training

You will be in the classroom, supported by your Mentor Teacher, from the commencement of your degree. You will have the opportunity to engage with the students and experience the role of a teacher in our schools from the beginning of your training. In fact, you’ll spend an average of 12 hours a week with your Mentor Teacher.

A dedicated Mentor

Regular meetings with your Mentor Teacher will help you to reflect on your classroom observations and to guide your development as a teacher. Your Mentor Teacher will support you to ensure that your time in the school is a rich and rewarding experience, with a Christian approach.

A broad experience

Engaging with other schools is crucial to your development as a teacher. Throughout your journey as a trainee, you will spend time at a number of different schools. This will include each of the Alliance Schools, as well as practicum placements at other schools. It is our desire that all trainees will also engage in national and international mission and service programs.

A community of support

As well as learning together with an inspiring group of peers, you will be supported on your journey by the Director of the Teaching Schools Alliance, lecturers from Alphacrucis College, and school-based staff, who are dedicated to your spiritual growth, wellbeing and development as a teacher.

A guaranteed career

We are invested in your development. We want you to stay and teach with us at the end of your training program and become a qualified teacher. We will endeavour to secure you a role at your sponsoring school or at another Alliance school. After you complete your training, we will continue to offer you support in your development as a new teacher.

The Scholarship Program

The Alliance schools offer scholarship positions to a select number of successful applicants. There are four levels of scholarship positions available. These scholarships are comprised of a Teacher Assistant position, a reduction in course fees and a 3-year lease of a laptop to assist your studies.
